Silo Back!

Ouvir!Oh My God! Silo are back and they have a MySpace page:

http://myspace.com/silospace

Silo have to be one of the most underrated bands in the post-rock scene ever. Actually 'underrated' is not the right word to use here since it's not the case someone has written a big review slagging them off or some alternative music geek has desperately been trying to hide them under the shadow of Tortoise or something. So I probably should have written 'most unknown' instead. Silo are one the most unknown bands in the post-rock movement. But it seems now we'll have a chance to fix this.

Why they should be considered one of the most interesting (if not the most interesting) instead will be the matter of a future post here. The track 'Root' on that MySpace page should be good enough an indicator: a deep bass drone hovering over a very treasured 9/8 groove and then that fractal-like entrancing guitar pattern of Frederik Ammitzbøll. God, have you ever heard anything as good as that?

I'm not so fond of the heavily layered stuff over a dominant 4/4 beat they have on the new 'work in progress' tracks but it's interesting and innovative nonetheless: they now seem to be going for the odd-timed stuff as an other-dimensional component of their sound, exploring different rhythmic structures at the same time. Because I'm so used to their old composition style after hundreds of hours of listening to Instar and Alloy this new shit just doesn't seem true to form. But I'm definitely eager to hear the developments of that 'bringing Meshuggah to post-rock' approach.
